Rebuilt Alternator Woes.

I ordered a rebuilt alternator from Pelican last week got the complete in and low and behld the shaft the comes out of the alternator had messed up threads. It looks like the rebuilder stopped halfway down the shaft and then went the other direction. The problem is that it won't even hold a nut. DAMN! I went to my local machine shop to see what they could do. They said it would be hard to rethread due to the fact that the shaft could be easily held in place. DAMN AGAIN! So now I'm forced to send it back to Pelican.

Just a word to the wise, check the thread on the shaft of the alternator before you install it.

That must be very irritating, to say the least. Installing an alternator is very time consuming, especially when trying to get your hands under the shroud and getting the fan off the shaft. I have had rebuilt alternators fail on other cars, so when my 911 needed one, I bought a brand new alternator for about $100 more than rebuilt. I thought it was worth it ...
