Chandler Museum
FYI: Otis Chandler will be holding an open house at the Otis Chandler Vintage Museum on October 25 from 10am-2pm. Admission is $7.
Otis Chandler, former publisher of the Los Angeles Times, is an avid Porsche collector and vintage car enthusiast. He has one of the first 959s to be imported to the US, and he is the one-time ower of a 917-30. Chandler's collection includes rare cars and motorcycles and is normally open by invitation only ... the Open House is a once or twice yearly phenomenon. For more information, check out www.chandlerwheels.com I'll be there ... hope you will, too.

I've visited that museum three times in the past, it was really something until he lost most of it in a divorce. last time I was there (12 years ago) he had over 150 very special cars. I've heard most of them are gone and it is mostly a motorcycle museum now. Is that true?

doesn't seem like there's a lot left from the 150..
the 959 caption mentions that the 959 is only legal for museum???? what a shame for such a car to remain quiet and not moving!!

Don't know ... I've never been there. I heard he "sold off" quite a bit of stuff, but it's worth a look nonetheless.
I like motorcycles so it's a win/win for me. I used to apprentice to a man named Al Cadrobbi who was the tuner/mechanic for Chandler's Spyders ... back in 1991 or 1992 we took a bunch of Chandler's cars to the Porsche Parade at Laguna Seca ... not much of a story, just a cool connection. |
