Targa Latch Adjustment Tips???

Hey Gang!

I have an 86 Targa that I just had re-covered. While the job looks great, I now find myself in need of making some adjustments to get it to seal properly.

The rear seal looks great. It lays flush with the Targa Bar and is pretty streamlined. The front, however, is a different story.

The bead is sitting a bit high, which is causing the seal to not be as tight as it should be. I can actually see a bit of light coming into the car, over the vent windows, on both sides.

I've searched through the archives here and have come close to finding the procedures for making these adjustment, but haven't quite found it yet. At one point, about a year ago, R22Tech was talking about posting a Tech Article about how to do it properly, but I wasn't able to find it. (R22Tech, if you're still inclined to do this, it would be greatly appreciated!!!)

Can anyone recommend a web site that would show this...with detailed instructions? Winter is coming and I'd really like to have this thing sealed up before that.

Thanks,

Randy

Randy,

There was a recent thread that outlined how to adjust the top. I believe advice was given by JMPRO.....try a search it may get you what you need.

Search Argument: Targa Top +adjust

One of many threads: Adjusting Targa Clips

Leland posted on this some time back. He mentioned the need of shims.

No, you won't find any exact procedure on how to adjust the latch at this board. I have looked extensively. Really, be sure that if you replaced the front seal recently it was shaved correctly. Beyond that, I cannot say but I am in the same boat you are in.

Appreciate the quick replies, fellas!

RickM, I revised my search to what you had and have found quite a few more hits. Jdub, I believe I read the posts from Leland during my previous searches...that's how I stumbled across R22Tech's comments about doing a Tech Article.

I'm gonna keep looking and will try to come up with some more answers. If/when I get it figured out, maybe I'll know it well enough to post my own Tech Article. I'll let you know how it comes out.

Thanks again!

Randy
