Fuel catch can and dump tubing-'73
There was talk about the configuration of the catch can and fuel dump line on the pre-'74 cars. I went to my RS (that has never been tampered with, to get an answer.
First there is a catch can: It is square box in black plastic, with two openings, one is the inlet from the fuel tank (large black tube), the other the outlet. There must be some internal baffles that let the overflow work only when it is full. It is attached by a black round section elastic cord, to the hook seen on the picture Then the outlet tube goes forward: The brake reservoir bottle has a dump tube too, that joins the fuel outlet at a 3 way connection (green arrows). Then the tube goes on to the front floor of the trunk where it exits through the sheetmetal: You can also see on that picture the start of the overflow tube that goes to the plastic box. This is the situation in my RS, and I have no reason to doubt it is not original, considering the car has never been in a nother workshop other than the main dealer. And yes that is rust in the last picture... GeorgeK |

Oops, I forgot to mention that the tube is held on by a clip to the cardboard covering the fuse boxes (dismounted in my car).
