Indicator / Blinker Problem
Hey guys, on my 75 Carrera, if I lift the indicator arm to take a right turn the green indicator blinks (on the dash) and I hear the familiar tick...
However when I pull it down to indicate left, the green indicator doesn't come on, and I dont hear the ticking... BUT the indicators do blink... Anyone any thoughts? |
try replacing your blinker relay.

The best advice I can give is to check and clean all your grounds. Especially the one's behind the parking/turnsignal enclosures, (rain, dirt and other road trash leads to corrosion of these grounds), the transmission strap (the source of MANY electrical related problems) and the starter ground. You should also clean all the bulb socket connections and the 14 pin connector in the engine compartment. Finally, clean all the fuse connections. I think you'll see a great improvement after this. 911 electrical problems are very often ground related. Hope this helps. Changing the flasher relay (behind the oil temp gauge) with a genuine Hella unit is also good avdice. I've been having my own turn signal problems. If you want to follow along with my travails:

I should consider myself a master on this subject...I tracked down my indicator problems, long as it took. Yes, checking and cleaning grounds and all contacts at the front and rear blinkers themselves is always a good idea. While there, coat with dielectric grease. However, I don't think this is the source of your problem.
Although it could be the flasher relay, my indicators both flashed whenever I selected left or right and ultimately a new relay fixed this...I think they just get weak with age. I'm wondering if the problem isn't in the turn signal switch itself...they have been known to cause problems. I need to listen closely to mine and see just where the 'click' originates. If the relay, then a new one should fix it. Ryan |

Newbe here... I have a project car I'm working on, (72) I'm having trouble getting the blinkers to work. I cleaned the grounds but I get no light, no flash.. Oh, my question is how do I check the switch itself? Thanks Tony |
Tony, First print off a color wiring diagram from the Pelican 911 Tech pages. Next, you will need a multi-meter capable of reading voltage. turn the key on and turn on the blinkers. You will need to start working from each end. First check for 12V at the fuse box. then you will need to check under the dash behind the ignition switch. There will be two multipin plugs. The left one will have the lights from the stalk. Check for 12V here. If not, then go up behind the oil pressure/temp guage and pull the blinker relay. test for 12V going in. You should also disassemble and clean the contacts inside. If you have not found the problem then its time to remove the blinker stalk and clean all contacts. You can also check for 12V at teh terminals on the light switch on the lower dash. Don't forget to check at the hazard light switch too. Good luck tracing the wires.

Right Hand Drive
I have a similar problem, no indicators or hazard lights but cant find the relay. I have a RHD car. Does anyone know where the relay for the turn signal is on a right hand drive car? Andrew |

Found it. On the drivers side, behind the clock. You can aslo access it through the front trunk, behind the right hand wheel arch. Put your hand in and reach through the trunk towards the steering wheel. Its a small black relay about 2cm x 3cm. It has 4 pins. I pulled mine out and found it to be clean and new. I gave it a firm wiggle and made sure it was seated correctly. So far the hazards and indicators work. Andrew |
