Fluttering lights on 87 Carrera

I have had my 1987 Carrera for 3 months. I just noticed a couple days ago that my parking lights were flickering or fluttering. Upon further investigation (duh) my headlights and dashboard lights do the same thing. It is not a radical high/low flicker, it is just a constant little flutter. There is also no real change when RPM's are increased.

I am sure this is not normal. Could this be my VR??? Can I make a conclusive diagnosis by using a voltage meter? Do I need to change this thing out ASAP? My Carrera is my daily driver. Help!

Thank you.

Mike

P.S.

I did a search and I know there is a SIMILAR post. My car's flicker/flutter is different than the "bright/dim" on the other post.

Could be a bad ground, or possibly bad alternator. I would check the ground first.

Mike,

You should be able to tell if the problem is alternator-related with a multimeter. A DMM probably will give constantly changing readings that are hard to read, while an analog multimeter will show fluctuating needle readings around a certain central range on the scale. If the Voltage fluctuation shows up at the 12 Volt accessory outlet during a test run while an assistant monitors the system Voltage level ... then it seems likely that either a major system ground -- such as transaxle-to-body, or battery ground strap would have to be causing the problem ... or your Voltage regulator is going bad.
