Removing Rear Bannana Arms
Can anyone tell me how, if at all possible, to remove the rear right hand bannana arm without removing the engine and box?
I have removed everything I would have expected but the through bolt on the torsion bar tube end is pushed in from the gearbox side and I can't get it to go out far enough to remove the arm? HELP?

I am no expert, but I have dropped the engine/box 5 times already for the last 2 weeks. Don't listen to me, but what I would "INVESTIGATE", repet "INVESTIGATE":
1. Disconnect tunnel connection; 2. put a jack/roller under the tranny to support it; 3. undo the tranny mounting bolts: 4. support the engine/tranny as if you are dropping it; 5. loosen the left engine mounting bolt; 6. remove the right engine mounting bolt. 7. swing the tranny to the left; Hope that #8 will give you enough clearance! Maybe, some experts can chime in. |

Thanks Cab83 looks like on a 72, which this is, the bolts should be fitted from the outside in, but of course I get the car with the bolts the wrong way round!
I think that your suggestion is about where I'm at having read the Haynes manual

toomany, if I remember correctly, our 73E banana arm attachment bolts were fitted from the inside out. I pulled them off when thje engine was out to replace the bushings. I think there may be clearance problems fitting the bolts outside in. Of course, my memory may not be so good...

From what I've heard, the '72 was put together inside out, which means that unless someone reversed them while the engine what out, you'll run into clearance problems.
I'm in the same boat -- I'll have to wait for an engine drop to swap in alum. banana arms. Of course in the NOVA area, all you have to do is -mention- an engine drop and you've got about half a dozen people knocking on your door with a beer in one hand and a wrench in the other! So I'm simply waiting to get all the suspension parts together, the engine projects lined up, the body parts together (flares, bumpers, doors), and the $$ for body work and a repaint before I drop the motor.
