Help! 911 3.2 won't start has spark
I have a 1988 911 with a 3.2 I am trying to get going. It has been re-wired because there was a fire in the trunk.(big stupid sound system destroyed the wires) Everything works as it should(save the motor starting) I have spark and the fuel pump works. If I shoot gas in the intake it runs. No voltage at the injectors though. Why would the engine have spark but no power to the injectors? Any thoughts?

DME Relay? Don't really know that must about motronic but it seems that is what all the people on this board say to check first.

Tom,
Rewired? Who did it? First thing to check is the DME to injector harness - there is a connector on the rear engine bay shelf between the shock towers, adn a harness running to the injectors. If this was damaged and/or repaired, it could be the problem. I have a wiring diagram for the DME if you need it. |
The Relay is good. I will dig into the wires from the dme to the injectors tomorrow.
Thanks, Tom |
I found one of the problems. Bad connection between the injector harness and the firewall. Got it to run for a few seconds. I think I need to clean the injectors next. Also it smokes like a pig.

Progress! Sounds like you have localized one fairly major source of the non-start problem, and you might have proved that the DME harness and brain is OK [I was worried that the DME brain might have been fried by shorts in the harness during the fire event].
The smoke may be temporary. If the car has not run for a good while, oil would have seeped by the valve seals into the heads. A few minutes of running should clear this. If it still smokes, that is another matter. Keep us posted! |
