Call me crazy 3.2 Turbo

Hi Guys, well after 9 months of search for a bolt on turbo kit, I have decided to build one with the help of the best Porsche BBS.
I have a ?, trying to get my parts list together.

I will be building single turbo, low boost, no intercooler, no internal mods.

Parts list so Far
* Garret t04
* Wastegate the ? do I need to run a 40 mm waste gate or can I use a 38 mm

More Questions coming soon
Thanks Guys

Yerman,

There are quite a few parts to add. To start you have to specify which trim you want your turbo in. There are many specs such as Turbine pitch, compressor housing size, AR, etc etc. There are probably a 50 variations of a T04.

The wastegate would most likely be a 40mm....Tial is a good brand. You'll have to use the appropraite spring to work at the appropriate pressure.

You'll need a rising rate fuel regulator to provide the proper amount of fuel.

A custom chip to tie all the new equipment together. Where will you get one? From what I understand Protomotive no longer sells the chip alone.

All the custom piping, including flanges, exhaust-to-turbo, intake/air cleaner, muffler etc etc.

Plumbing/fabrication to deliver oil to and from the turbo.

While you're here you might as well go for the intercooler...why stop now?

Then it will need to be tuned...by someone who knows what they're doing....or your car is kaput.

Understand that I am not trying to discourage you. However, this is a complex undertaking. It took many years of trial and error to make a reliable system for this car and by people who were experienced engineers.

Just an opinion, although not just mine, an intercooler should be included.
You could save your self some work and $ by going with a turbo with an internal wastegate. I have personal experience with an Escort Cosworth making 270AWHp from a 2.0L with an internal wastegate, so I don't think you would be giving up much. You would certainly gain more from teh intercooler than you would lose with an internal waste gate.

You'll have to calculate your cars theoretical cmf intake on boost and what pressure you'll run it at. Those two define what compressor housing to use (you'll know what i'm talking about once you've seen a compressor map) and the turbine AR ratio just tells you what speed the turbine will spool given the size (larger more lag, smaller less lag but more back pressure and therefore heat). As far as the waistgate, 40mm is a bit big since your not running high boost, but too big a waistgate really doesn't hurt, too small and now you've got some problems.
If i were you, i'd find another turbo, most of the t04's are meant to run in the .8 or more boost range with decent amount of cfm behind them. A t3/4 hybrid might be what you want to look for.
