Yes, a common issue for sure. Just do a search for "3 hole line up" and you will see that this has been covered many times and with great detail including diagrams and install tips.

Sorry couldn't resist

That does not look like a convertable top bodyshell you are trying to fit the roof too. But I am just as confused as everyone else.

Looks like a converted Targa to me - post the vin# and I am sure someone can tell you if the car started out as a convertible or is a converted Targa.

From there you can tell if you will have to modify - or just use straight factory parts. My guess is that it started out as a Targa - the bar was cut off -

Is that what you are looking for?

Well, there you have it - no Cabs in 1974 so this is a conversion.

You will have to drill more in the body - or drill in the cab frame to make it fit - pick your poison.

Hi Jeremy Dixon ;
I can make it fit, 1 hole 1 bolt per side to hold TOP and body, but window frame is off set about 1/2". And I need to push TOP down about 1/2" also.
Thanks again.

Let's back up a minute.

You have a '74 cab conversion. From what I'm able to piece together, you bought this baby without a top. Then you went out and bought a top, and now you're trying to install it?

Right?

From where I'm standing, that doesn't look like a standard cab mount. Who knows what in the heck it was, but it doesn't look like any of the mounts I've seen, and I did a far bit of research before I broke out the sawzall on mine.

If the previous supposition is correct - that you bought it sans top, then I'll break out another conspiracy theory that the top wasn't actually stolen, but it was some abortive aftermarket cab conversion, which is why your stock top doesn't line up.

Check out my cab conversion page for detailed pix of what the pieces should look like: http://vintagebus.com/howto/cab/

The first thing I see is that your mount is not recessed where the top bolts on, which would explain the fact that you're 1/2" too high.

In addition, does the latch mechanism match the windshield header? You're bent over double if they sold you an 86-> top - it won't fit on your door posts nor will it match the header.

If I'm right up to this point, I have an exit strategy for you: I have an extra set of orginal top mounts - they're the ones shown on the page - that you could weld in, and then you can use the stock top.

Top fit perfect. The last owner told me, I need TOP C2 to fit this baby.
That all I know, and got TOP from Silverstar junkyard in Sacramento last Feb 03.

And I saw that PIX from that Web.

Also looking for 2 1/2" wheel spacer.
Hope to get a car run on the street next month.

It's entirely possible that the top fit perfect, it's just that it wasn't the same type of top you have now.

I need TOP C2 to fit this baby.

The C2 top used the exact same pillar mount, or damn close to it, as the pre-C2; the only difference being the windshield header. So whoever did the original conversion on your car used something other than a 911/964 top. 993? I don't know that I've seen a 993 cab stripped down.
Before we go any further, have you validated that the top that you have will latch into the car's windshield? If it will, then let's talk about changing the mounts; if not, maybe it's time to consider the 'roadster' look.

Before we go any further, have you validated that the top that you have will latch into the car's windshield? If it will<<< YES, latch and lock good.
Only problem I got is ,I have to push hard to align that pin into slot.

Thom to the rescue! Thanks also for the pictures on your website of the wheel bearing replacement. Helped - even without text. My brake rotor/pads/caliper/lines went without a hitch.
