Can someone check an engine # pls?

Hi Lads

I've been given a lead on a 2.4 engine #6123820. Can any of you gurus give me the lowdown on it?

Cheers

Well its from 1971/72 911T/E with fuel injection.

130HP at 5600 RMP

Stroke & Bore 70.4/84

Compression Ratio 7:5:1

Fishcop 10-06-2003 09:20 PM

Thanks

That's not what it's running now, but I'm interested in what it's evolved from. It's now S cam'd and running webers.

Cheers

What's the story?

Fishcop 10-07-2003 04:41 PM

Well Bill I'm tired of my tyre shredding 110hp 2.0 lt T!

I decided a while ago to upgrade to a 2.7. I missed Obrut's ex-targa Tassie 2.7 engine for sale last week, but a 2.4 S pistoned/cammed engine has turned up here in Queensland and reading Wayne/Bruce's books indicates this could be a great motor with a reliable 200hp. Being a pre '73 lightweight, I think I could be happy with 200hp...

Go Wallabies!

pwd72s 10-07-2003 04:49 PM

'72 T coupe seems to have been it's original home...according to PCA's "Porsche Family Tree"...

Fishcop 10-07-2003 08:12 PM

Thanks Paul, I believe it is an ex US engine. The original MFI might have been nice, but I'm happy with webers these days :)

Bill Douglas 10-07-2003 08:49 PM

Wallabies - who's that? All the best :)

Are you going to run it with the sporto? The reason I ask is maybe I should be parting out the spare parts SC.

Fishcop 10-07-2003 09:08 PM

Do you have a spare gearbox? My intention is to keep running the 2.0 and sporto until I've rebuilt/reconditioned the 2.4... it would also make sense to switch to a manual box at this time.

I wonder if the US members are aware that they are the defending Olympic champions of Rugby Union? ...... Last played in the 1920's :D

Bill Douglas 10-07-2003 10:04 PM

Keep me in mind. The gearbox is out of a '82SC, and I've got no idea of what it is like but the rest of the car is perfect (other than being smashed up :) ). The pedal custer is bent as a result of the crash but it may be a good basis to start with.

WHAT, the US play rugby union - let alone, have actually won something?

Must've been the performance enhancing "substances".
Fishcop, I'm curious about the 200hp number you mentioned...wasn't a stock MFI 2.4S spec'd at 190hp? I'd expect a T built to S specs with Webers to be less HP, but maybe something is going on that I'm not considering. Thanks.

Tim Walsh 10-08-2003 04:50 AM

Jim,
I belive an Hi compression S camed 2.4 should make close to 200. The factory also tended to understate their HP figures.

Fishcop 10-08-2003 03:58 PM

Jim, it could be that I am "optimistic", but as Tim suggests, the hi comp pistons, S cam, a little valve work, and well tuned webers may help me see 200hp.... close enough will be good enough for me :)

Bill, forgive me for being busy for the last 2 months.... is YOUR car smashed?

Also in this World Rugby Championship year some interesting stats have come out... The USA did indeed play Rugby and will field a team this year. Rugby was an Olympic sport before being dropped in the 1920's, the last team to take the gold was the USA... ergo they are the defending Olympic champions!

pwd72s 10-08-2003 04:05 PM

John, if it's still running the original shroud, it may give you an additional clue if it has the "cut outs" for the MFI injectors...

Fishcop 10-08-2003 04:13 PM

Pretty sure it does Paul, it would seem there is no doubt that it was once MFI. I have another shroud without the cut outs that I would replace it with.

Bill Douglas 10-08-2003 10:18 PM

Sorry John, I just assumed you knew everything ;) I bought a crashed car a few months ago, it's an '82 SC and has had a fair bit of money thrown at it recently, shame it got crashed. 10,000 miles ago it got a NZD$13,000 engine reconditioning, and has newly recovered, in black leather, front and back seats. I've put the wheels on my car (which is running beautifully), as after a few "test" paint stripping exercises, mine are looking a little dodgy. LOL, 3 different colours on the same car was not a good look.

The world cup looks like it is going to be a great event. Shame NZ miss-managed it's feeble attempt at co-hosting it http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/chix.gif

Fishcop 10-10-2003 04:18 PM

Nice score Bill!

If you are indeed parting stuff out, then I would indeed be interested in a few things. I'll PM or email you.... the pedal cluster would be a good start! Are you selling the engine and trans?

Dunno how NZ let such an opportunity slip by?

Bill Douglas 10-13-2003 08:30 PM

Mismanagement by a group of farkwits.

I dunno which bits I'll sell, but I don't need the gearbox I'm sure. I'm not in any hurry so let me know when you are keen to talk. I could sit it on my lap some time when I come over, I'm sure.
