Weekend at Laguna Seca
Some shots from the Road & Track Sports Car Invitatonal this past weekend at Laguna Seca. There were a couple of PCA groups, the Klub Cars, even some vintage Can-Am. LOTS of cool cars, some you may even find familiar. Took 200 pics, these are some of my favs......

Anybody have any updates on how the driver of the GT3 is doing that crashed just before turn 2 during the 2nd PCA run group Sunday afternoon?

The crash was pretty bad. We were watching from above just before turn two. Apparently, as he was approaching turn two he locked up the brakes and headed off track. From our vantage point, we could not see him hit the wall, but we did "feel" it and did see the left front wheel fly up and back on to the track.
Fortunately, he did walk away and get in the ambulance under his own power. We saw the car later - it was definitely totaled.

Thanks for the pictures! I was there Friday, but only took 35mm pics.
I couldn't believe how low the 917's are! The top of the roof is barely to the window sill on my cab. |

I was there most of Sunday, the proof is that is my white 996 in the porsche parking padock picture. Really fun day, reports from the drivers were that the track in the morning was really causing understeer, so everyone was adjusting to compensate, but most had corrected the problem (or the track got better) by the race. In the blue group it was a GT3R 3.2 liter leading a GT4R 2.8 liter, in a nose to tail race all the way, they even almost changed positions in turn 5, but the 3.2 could just pull the 2.8. I have heard the 2.8 is only 1900lbs wet, so hp/lbs was very close.
The GT3 car crash caused a long full course yellow for the red group, almost 20 min of the 30 min race. Stephanowitz (sp?) in a floresent orange 911 (w 700+ hp) started at the back, but moved through the field at will, but did not have enough time to get to the front. However he bumped a car in turn 2, so I think he was black flagged. At the drivers meeting before the race there was strong words about the number of bumps, I quote " it is only sunday morning and we have already had more incidents than we normally have in an entire weeked, so lets be careful". One other point of note, there were so many Cup cars (996 style) present that the GT3R/S classes which normally run in the red group were pushed to the blue group. Boy there sure is a lot of money in PCA racing..... Jim

It gets even more interesting with the GT3R 3.2. On Saturday he was on Grid and suddenly could not get the car in gear. Turns out a fork in the transmission had broken and it appeared that his weekend was over. Well, someone had an extra tranny at the event. That tranny was ripped apart to get the needed part. They dropped the engine, tore apart the broken tranny and replaced the part and buttoned it back up. Total time was 3 1/2 hours from start to finish. Another testiment to what a great community the PCA, and its memebers really are.

the blue 914 has a 3.4 liter in it and won on Saturday, but a chain tensioner oil line broke on sunday so he dropped out.

At the front of the pack (I think this was the warm up lap): GT3R 3.2 on the right and GT4R 2.8 on the left.
