Floor tile for the P-Car Garage....
I was thinking black and orange 12x12 squares....too goofy looking? They would be color matched withe the large Porsche logo on the wall....

![]() Orange? Whatever floats your boat. It is YOUR garage. Keep in mind, the darker colors absorb light. I was amazed how much darker my garage got when 50% of the floor was black. I suggest making larger 24"x24" checkers (as I have done). 12"x12" squares just looked to busy.

My solid light grey painted floor makes it so much easier to see small nuts and washers, and even tools when I am under the car. I'm suprised how much better it is than plain concrete. If you spend much time working on the car, something lighter than orange and black may be more practical. Very cool when you're NOT under the car, though.....

Whatever you choose, use something that is readily available for replacement. Tiles on garage floors WILL break, no question. If you want to paint (no tiles), forget my remark.

Do a gray or white epoxy floor and project and paint a 4'x6' Porsche shield on the floor and then put a clear coat of epoxy paint over it.

Hey Emission - I was getting ready to paint my garage floor when I showed my wife the pictures of your garage. Now she wants me to do tile like yours.
Do you have any issues with it being slippery when wet? Also, how did you seam it to your driveway? The concrete from my garage floor extends past the garage doors by maybe 6 inches, so I would end up with that much of the tile outsied (althouhg in a covered area). Any tricks to the install? Thanks, Bill

My tiles are VCT = .69 sq/ft at Home Depot. Put some glue down (about $30 worth for a three-car garage) and lay down the tile. VCT is Vinyl Composite Tile.
They can't break, but they do chip or scratch. The color is solid, so chips aren't visible. Scratches can be polished out. The tile is slippery when when. It doesn't rain much here, so it has never really been an issue for me. The seam between the concrete and tile is a 1/8" lip. I bought some aluminum strips (1/8"x1"x48") and siliconed them to the concrete where the tile/concrete meet. It looks very clean. I can take pics if you want.

Thanks Emission - a picture would be great. How long have you had the tile down? Are you happy with it's durability so far? They have the same tiles at the Home Depot near me for .59 each.

![]() Above is a pic of the threshold. The tile will chip if there is an exposed edge. The aluminum looks cool, and has been very durable (I used a special Silicone for concrete adhesion). The tile has been in about 8 months. I really have been happy with it. Keep in mind that jack stands will dent it. I put wood pads under stands before I use them. Oil - even if left for weeks - does nothing to the tile. It wipes up with a paper towel (thankfully).

Wow - that looks really nice. I figure I would just use extra pieces of tile to set jack stands on. My heavy floor jack will probably mar the tile when I roll it around, but no big deal - it is just a garage floor after all.

Yes, mine is a WORKING garage too - not a shrine. This is one reason I chose the "speckled" tile, not solid colors.

I used the rustoliem garage floor paint.
2 part epoxy and added the speckle chips. it comes as a kit and came out great. One kit does a one bay garage floor for around 44.00

Ron,
What, if any, prep work did you do to the concrete prior to applying the Rustoleum kit? I have looked at that stuff too.

The last epoxy coating job we had done at work was on an old concrete floor. We hired the pros and paid $3.00 per square foot. It was scrubbed with a wire brush on a floor buffer with muratic acid, flushed, etc. Looked fabulous for two years. Now there are spots where it is popping up due to contaminents in the concrete and the patches look awful.
Remember, $3.00 a square foot and it still didn't turn out. I'd love to have a nice looking floor at home but I've seen the results and think the old concrete looks good. YMMV Jim '73 911 |

I placed 12"x12" tiles in 2x2 squares.
My total floor preparation was nothing more than a really good sweeping (and I had to chisel some rocks off the surface). The glue never really sets solid - just really (really) tacky. If you damage a tile, you can pry it up and replace it. Kinda cool.
