Carbon fibre doors

Where can I get some? My (steel) doors are fine, but the (electric) windows are getting sticky, and the driver's door is getting harder to open with each passing day.

I want to compare the cost of fitting -- and painting -- carbon fibre doors with reconditioning my OEM doors.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Matt: you might want to consider fiberglass. Carbon's hard to paint and very expensive in contrast with fiberglass.

Take a look at rennspeed's website. The doors, I think, are US $575 for a pair, which isn't too bad.

I would also check the rules of any series or comp you might like to one day run the car in (eg. for Targa, cf doors would land you in MS with the the big dogs...)

CF breaks down with prolonged exposure to UV light, too.

As cool as it'd look, you'd definitely need to paint the doors.

Carbon fibre or fibreglass doors, which ever, sounds like the way to go. I don't know if you have ever lifted a 911 door but the weigh a fricken ton Mate. About three time the weight of my Toyota's door.

Generally if you're running fibreglass or carbon fibre doors it's wise to install a roll cage because you will have lost much of the side impact protection. Just another thing to consider. Also you might want to consider the way in which carbon breaks into shards...just hope none get driven into the cabin and into your leg if you're in a side impact.

Bill, why do 911's have such heavy panels? I was absolutely astounded at how much Ryan's steel bonnet weighed compared to the F/G one. For a lightweight car it just seemed really odd.
