964 Rear Glass Install in 78 Coupe

I am updating my 78 coupe with 964 glass and seals. Have installed the side windows w\o problem. The 964 quarter windows went in today with 993 seals w\o problem. I have a 964 rear glass .... and problem. The installer believes the rear glass is too long by .5 inch. I am using a 964 rear window seal. Has anyone installed a 964 rear window glass [mine has 3rd brake light and defroster] in a 1978 Porsche 930 coupe?

I have a 964 windshield on order and plan to use 964 factory seal.

I can offer this , the factory metal template for window apertures is the same from 65 911's thru the 964 series, so it would seem logical that as long as you use the correct glass /rubber combo you will be able to update and back date. The 964 glass will be larger , but it also sits higher in the opening to gain a flush fit to the surface.

A professional glass guy has been handed the task of the install and I will report back with the results. Last thing I want to do is break or crack it doing it myself.

Sorry ..... forgot to report back. The rear glass went in fine and fits fine. The problem was that I had a 911 rear glass seal which does not work. Once I got a factory 964 rear glass seal it worked perfectly.

Excellent! I did this on a 73 using a lexan rear window and that went well also.
