Sunroof Cable Guide

Hey, this is regarding a broken sunroof in a 1986 911 Carrera

First I removed the crank, the motor and the cables to make sure they worked fine. They did.

Right now I have the sunroof itself removed and the inside headliner pulled back. I'm currently at the stage in repair where I am supposed to remove the cable guide and the cables, clean the guide and reconnect the cables to the slide pieces.

However, I cannot remove the cable guide because it is riveted down. The Bentley manual claims you can just lift the guides forward and off, but they are firmly riveted in.

I could do without removing the guides if I could just remove the slide piece, then pull out the cable, and then reconnect them and slide them back in, but I cant even remove the slide piece because this same rivet is in the way at the end of the cable guide.

Any hints on what to do? Thanks - Matt

I just replaced a broken cable on my 89 and I would think it is the same setup. I'm a bit confused over your questions so I'll throw out a few observations. Some Pics would help if you can post them. The cable and the guide are one piece. The come from the factory as one unit. The slides and other sunroof parts come off after removing a series of phillips screws. They do not make a new cable/slide that can fit a pre 90 car without some filing of the respective ends to fit the track. Let me know if I can be more specific.
