Oil Leaks!
Hi all,
I'm new to 911 land, but getting an education very quickly. I've got oil leaking from the front of the engine. I've read countless threads re: oil leaks, but I've got this question: I was told that I could replace three likely leaks in the area of concern; oil pressure switch, breather cover gasket, and the temp thermostat cover o-ring by doing a partial engine drop w/o removing the CIS. I dropped the engine about 6", and after looking around in a mirror, it only looks like the pressure switch is removable w/o taking out the CIS? If this is the case (need to pull out the CIS) is there a procedure available to take it out? Thanks in advance, this website is a dream come true!! Jeff |

I had a CIS engine on the garage floor for a few months before I decided to sell it. While it was here, I poked around a bit and I think it would be tough to remove the CIS while in the car. But, I have read here that it can be done. Maybe just removing the airbox will get you access. However, if it was me, I'd remove the whole engine and clean up the whole shebang. Once you get past the drive shafts, it's really not that big a job. I just don't enjoy working on the shafts.

Zeke,
Thanks for the info. I just got done with changing out the pressure switch. I tend to agree with you. I've delt w/ the drive shafts recently to replace some CVJ's so I think I'll button things up and do an engine drop in a few weeks. Is it fairly easy to take out the airbox only? Thanks! |
