2.4 dizzy in 2.2 case
 

I've poked around the archives and I can't find anything definitive. I'm going to be building a Hi compression 2.4E enigine but my case is worn out. I might be buying a case from a 71 but I don't know if the distributor will fit since I know that they were changed somewhere in there. Will my 2.4T dizzy fit on the 2.2 case?

Hi, no it wont. 2.4 is larger in bore than the 2.2 one. In fact, early 2.7 uses the same dizzy as 2.4. My advice? Get a 7R case.

I've got a 7R case but it's wide spigoted. I need a small one.

Part numbers to look for:
0 231 121 006
0 231 159 001
0 231 159 002 (that's for an "S" VERY different curve)
0 231 159 007
0 231 159 008 (fir 70-71 T)
You will most likely have to modify the curve.
About $80.00 but used dizzy's sometimes require additional work.

The basic checking points are:

900 rpm 2 deg to 4 deg at DC
3000 rpm 20 deg to 22 deg BTDC
4600 rpm 27 deg to 29 deg BTDC
6000 rpm 33 deg to 35 deg BTDC
What this boils down to is any distributor that uses a steel hold own clamp will work. 72 and newer dizzy's have the clamp cast into the body.
I heard from another source that John Walker can have these larger bodies turned down.

I bought an 001 at Ventura swap meet for $50.00. Pretty good deal if you ignore the costs of the flight from Minneapolis and two nights in the motel and the lovely dinner my wife and I had in Oxnard. But hey I didn't buy a P-car to SAVE money.

On advice from JWW, I had a 2.7 Bosch distributor turned down to match the diameter of the smaller Marelli I was replacing... very easy job (any good machine shop can do it). I then sent the dizzy away to be re-mapped to suit my engine. Total of $250 (Aussie) dollars including the purchase of the 2.7 dizzy.

How about the other way around? Is there any way to use an early distributor in a late case?
