Weber 40IDA setup tips?

Weber 40IDA setup tips?

It wasn't too long ago, I saw a well written guide on how to adjust each screw and stop detent on these carbs for a smooth running setup.

Does anyone have a copy or know where I might find that?

My car runs OK, but too rich, there is blue exhaust smoke and a real strong odor of unburnt fuel at the exhaust pipe.

Blue exhaust smoke=oil, nothing to do with your carbs

To rich at what rpm? the idle circuits of the webers are a compromise. the mains come on between 28-3400 rpm depending on emulsion tubes. Sounds like you need to sync the carbs, then adjust the idles circuits.

Make sure your ignition and valvle adjustment are all up to snuff before fiddling with the carbs...

I remember seeing the weber tuning procedure publishe in the Q&A section of Excellence in the past year or so

What parts are you running in the Carb?

rickeolis 10-12-2003 08:41 PM

Thanks for the input guys.

I have bone stock webers from my old 2.0 liter in this new 2.7, but I am now at 6000 feet ASL, whereas the carbs came from the car that I got from Portland, around 30 feet sea level.

I smell gas really bad in the exhaust fumes...

your carb tweaking is all formula at sea level

but FWIW I ordered PMOs dialed in for sea level and also told them to supply parts to tweak 'em for extended Rocky Mt visits.
and Aspen is almost 8k..
and where abouts are you located?
I smell a Golden Eagle.......Ron

Here is a link to some weber tuning directions posted by another member (T Bird). They are very well written, worked good for me and other folks here as well. .
