Wouldn't start when hot
 

Took my 1974 2.7L out for a nice run after work the other day, ran great, engine temp to about 200 degrees, parked in the driveway for about 15 minutes, went back out with the wife to a restauraunt that's 1 mile away, still running great but - wouldn't start after dinner(aprox 1 hour). The next morning started fine. Any ideas. The wife said she's never driving in "that" car again.

Same thing happend to me last night. Tried rolling it back into the street thinking that the incline of my drive way had something to do with it. My wife, 'Great, now we're going to get hit.'

Bad fuel pump check valve. Do a search. :)

Check the starter. I had the same intermitent starting problems wouldn't start when hot. Changed the starter and no problems since.

I had the same problem 6 months ago with my 79 3.0, was sure it was the fuel pump. Turned out to be the fuel pump relay. Cheaper then a fuel pump, easy to access too. Boy, was I happy.

I know it's bad form to just replace things but for $30, it's tempting. Who knows, you might get lucky like I did.

I forgot to mention that the car cranked fine, it just wouldn't fire.

The same happened to me one day after dinner with the wife in a restaurant the car never started again (so I got the fair share of wife talk while waiting for the tow)

The problem was a faulty ignition coil, it was slowly dying....
Check if you have spark next time it happens. If so you better have a coil with you..

Had the same problem just today. It turns out the Fuel pump relay was loose (almost falling out). The starter cranked great but with no fuel the engine wouldn't start (go figure). After a frustrating hour and nearing divorce I opened the fuse box and voila. Even with virtually no mechanical skills I could see what was wrong.
