Here's the info...I've been looking at my winter/spring project and this is what I wanted to do on the 911SC...
PMO's ($3000) 964 CAM ($650 not sure) SSI or GHL setup ($1200) MISC engine stuff ($1000) So now I'd have $6000 on a non-rebuilt 3.0 and getting roughly 220 HP from her...and probably be maxed out... so this got me thinking bigger engine... Guys have been going the 3.6 route and these can be had for $6000-8000 complete...and I'd have the ability to get close to 280HP with the 3.6 So the 3.6 sounds like the way to go, not? Slap some sense into me...do I sell my perfectly good 3.0 engine and dive into a 3.6 or do I run the 3.0 into the ground (which could be take forever)? Another HP hungry 911 fool...

the engine is maybe $6K-8K, but by the time you have the engine installed and everything sorted I think you are looking at more like $15K-20K.... big difference.

Schuey,
Go with the SSI/Dansk and Webcam 20/21 cams ... and you will be so pleased you won't worry about the rest of the list for years to come! Even a CIS engine feels great to 7000 rpm with those two simple changes ... and the hp numbers really don't matter that much! Lots simpler than an engine swap ... and your gut 'dyno' feelings will be happy with the money/time/frustration avoided, too!

Warren's right. Sure, carbs would give you a bit more BOOM in terms of throttle response, but the SSI and 20/21 cam change alone would put a nice smile on your face. At more than ten thousand dollars less than the 3.6 plan. And months sooner. I've got the SSI and 20/21 cam setup and, like Warren says, the power band is wide and strong compared to stock.

I am young and stupid, but another option is to build a fresh 3.0 or buy a strong used 3.0 and turbo the blastin' thing. The way I see it a low boost turbo is going to be much cheaper than a 3.6, and you will have killer torque.
I decided to close the pursestrings for this year. During winter, I will freshen the suspension and brakes (nothing better to do when it's cold outside), and next year I will see if my play fund can handle a 3.6 or turbocharger setup. SSIs, high compression, and cams are very limited if you want BIG power. I know in my heart I will be keeping this SC for a long time, so I will make it perfect in my mind. ![]() Jürgen |

If everything goes right your 3.6 swap with exhaust, oil cooling, and installation will run you more like 11-13k after you sell your 3.0. Thats paying someone to do it. I've got a list of items to price if you need one. I'm very happy with my swap--it totally changes the personality of the car into a beast--lots of fun.

Why don't you go with Webers instead (save $2000), and then spend the $$$ on some higher compression JE pistons and some mod 'S' cams?

I'm with Wayne on this one. Whether you go with Webers or PMO's, the higher compression coupled with a more aggressive cam WILL give you much more power, for lots less $$ than a 3.6 will.

I'll be rebuilding my 3.2 this winter and I am going with larger pistons, upgraded cam and all the other neccessary items to make it perform on the track. I pondered the 3.6 swap but I think a lot of unsaid expences seem to get glossed over. Besides my engine has been great for 70K (except for smoking guides). It's just getting broken in.
