Differences in SC vs. Carrera valence?
 

I am wondering what the differences are in the Carrera and the SC front valence? I know that the fog lights are recessed in Carreras, but did the shape of the front valence change at all when the recessed lights were added? When I look at my valence on my SC, there are recessed sections where the fog lights are supposed to be. See attached picture (ignoring the huge dent that is now fixed!).

Could the valence be cut and Carrera fogs be fitted in there?????

SC fog/driving lights are mounted to the valence with a pair of hex screws and nuts. The Carrera valence has recesses with sheet metal straps for the fog lights to mount.

The valences mount the fog lights differently, but I am pretty certain that the Carrera valence would bolt onto an SC. There were very little differences between the two cars, the fog lights being one of the biggest changes.

I just recently acquired an identical dent in the exact same position on my Carerra

They are basically the same, but the Carrera valance has a hole with an integral bracket behind the hole to mount the fog light.

I checked into this. You need to put a carrera valence on your SC in order to fit the carrera fog lights / get the carrera look. The aftermarket makes this valence. As stated above, the fog lights are different too, so you will have to ditch your SC foglights also. I think it is worth it. Those factory fog lights on the SC look like some shade tree mechanic bougth them at JCWhitney and bolted them on there. The other thing I was thinking about was just to take the things off for now.

I agree about the look of the SC fog lights. My car came without fog lights from the factory and I was thinking about adding some for extra light.

Sonic: I took my valence off and pounded it out with a flat hammer. The valence is VERY easy to take off, there are two bolts in the trunk area where the factory jack is stored, and two more directly in front of the front wheels. My car is lowered so I had to take my front wheels off to get at those two, but it was still very easy. I think there might be another couple of phillips screws on each side holding plastic trim on too. Then I took a flat hammer, and put the valence on my work bench with a towel under it (prevent scratching) and pounded away until I got the shape right. It's not perfect, but from a few feet away, you can't tell, which is what I was after.

I was hoping I could just add some fog lights, but if I have to go with a new valence, I'll probably wait and go with a fiberglass front end later on. Thanks for all the replies!

Thanks Casey for the tip. The valance is fiberglass right? I wasnt sure if pounding it out could crack it. Guess not!

I think it's aluminum. It might be sheet metal though. If it's aluminum you don't want to bend it too many times because it will eventually crack instead of bending.

The original valence is sheetmetal with a factory applied rubberized resilient texture then painted the color of the car

i just replaced my sc valence with a carrera unit. i was not interested in fogs i did it for ducting purposes. the recess and mounting for the careera fogs worked great for the ducts i found. the only issue i found was that where the valence terminates near the from wheel it was about an inch short on both sides. i think this may have had to do with the fact that the carrera unit had a factory chin spoiler in another life. if you look at the attached photo you may be able to pic it up.

Ohh...the rubber coating threw me off. The dent is showing the rubber. Hopefully the rubber will pop out when I bang out the dent.

You can bolt up the Carrera valance to an SC, but if I'm not mistaken, you also have to replace the water bottle to accomodate the drivers side light bracket.........

k911sc: those ducts look nice. Where did you find them and how much? I would be interested in adding them until I find a nice used Carrera valence. They would fit right in where my valence has some imperfections. I wouldn't mind cutting up my valence either since it is in need of some work anyway. I guess I would rather upgrade my existing lights anyway and gain some brake cooling instead.

I have a Carrera valence (and fog lights) on my 74. So, I'm sure it would fit on an SC.

if you put a carrera valence on an SC, is it still an SC? Or Gruppe B?
