want to buy from Pelican! window question

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/autocat/load_page.cgi?page_number=4&bookmark=24&model=911E&currsection=miscel

I need to replace the window felt at the inside top of the door - between the window and the door - the strip that has the snap fittings. Which part is it?

Also while I have the doors apart I'm going to add the reinforcement kits and new window channel felt (found them in the catalog - I feel like things are going great already!).

Anything else I should do while I'm in there?

I did this same job and bought the parts from Pelican exactly a year ago. Door stay job was no problem. But I didn't feel real good about the prospect of pulling my window assembly outta there. Since just the upper corner of my felt gasket was torn, I just decided to snip the same section out of the new one I got from Wayne and use that 3M adhesive to put it in place. I swear you would not be able to tell from looking that I did it this way. Also it fit perfectly and I got no more wind noise. Better yet, I still have the rest of the new gasket to use for future repairs. Sorry - I forget the part number, but someone on the phone at Pelican faxed me a diagram and walked me through it until we could agree on the part I needed. Great cust. service.

Bill, was that the problem with your window being stubborn?

Is this what you want?

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911E/por_911E_weathr_main.htm

I went through this job just this last week end. Replaced the weather seals and also had to replace the pivot for the window lift spring assist. The pivot wears and eventually breaks. Symptoms of failure are difficult window closing or sticking lift.

I would not know where to find the pivot in Pelican's catalogue. I do not even know what it is called. I made my own.

If you have the window out it is no sweat to take out and clean and lubricate the door lock as well. I did this and also tightened up the outside door handles that were a little loose on their gaskets. You can only get to them with the window out so take the opportunity to check anyway.

This week I have tight rattle-free doors and the windows slide like a dream. What a difference!

As a matter of interest the Pelican window weather seals are soft rubber. My car previously had metal-backed seals. The metal had rusted and expanded under the cloth so the groove was too small for the glass. This meant that the window did not slide easily and I suspect this put the extra strain on the pivot which then broke.

All in all an easy job to do.

Good Luck
