New chip, bad clutch or just bad driving

Just installed the new chip Jack Olsen and others were talking about as the price was cheap, I was curious as to whether I really had Ruf chip as I was told, and I wanted to see the difference between what I had and another chip.

I usually run about 5.4s on the Gtech with my 90 C2 cab, but I have big 18 inch wheels and a decent amount of weight in stereo gear.

The new chip has a 3 position toggle switch. I was switching between the two outside positions and running between 5.8 and 6.0 and one 6.2 (well over 10 runs). Turns out, that the middle position was power mode so I was running the 5.8 to 6.0s in normal configuration so my old chip is definitely hotter than normal settings on the new chip.

Power mode:

I reset and switched to middle or power mode after being told the switch positions. To keep from just spinning the wheels, I kind of feathered the clutch so to speak and it did not fully engage. I still launched hard, but the clutch never really enagaged, was slipping and staying about 2k over what it should have been until I feathered the gas at about 5k. I did the same thing in 2nd.

No burning clutch smell and I have done this before without burning clutch smell. BTW, car pulled hard with the new chip in power mode, but nothing objective as I came home with my tail between my legs after the clutch issue.

Question:

Is my clutch about toast even though I can still dump it hard and light up the rears wheels in first and second. So is it a bad clutch or just bad driving.

Something is not right with the clutch. It should lock up.

I assume those are 0-60 times? How did it do in the power mode?

Does the C2 have an adjusment for the clutch? I'm not familiar with any transmissions newer than the 915.

Mike it would be a G50 variety, self adjusting/hydraulic.

My test for a slipping clutch that needs to be replaced is to put it in 4th gear, parking brake on good and hard, get the rpm's up to about 1500 rpm, let the clutch out while keeping the rpm's up around 1500. If the engine stalls you still got some good clutch plate left. Keeps running, start looking to replace that clutch.

"self adjusting", i thought they were of the same design as the late carreras/944/968/928 where although it is hydraulic you must manually adjust it?

P301-10 Bentley.
First line.
"The hydraulic clutch is not adjustable. The clutch slave cylinder automatically compensates for normal wear of the clutch disk."

Mike:

Feels strong, but nothing yet numbers wise. The clutch works fine, but feels strange, sticky and a little frail. The clutch feels so different from my TT which I drive every day so I am not sure if it is whacked or what.

Talked to shop today and its going back in for new clutch, full service/valve adjustment. Car runs strong now, but I don't think it is at 100 percent. What fun after just dropping 2.4k two weeks ago for new rotors, GHL and etc. I think it will post some pretty strong numbers when its sorted.
