fumes coming out defroster vent
last week i had a 67/911 delivered by flatbed. the car has not been run for 2 0r 3 years (stories vary) and during that time has been sitting out in the elements. (se Iowa). anyway, got it running today. however, am getting lots of fumes/smoke coming up thru the defroster vents. just had it running a bit in my garage. yes, the garage door was wide open and i had a pedestal fan going full bore. any thoughts on what could be causeing this little gas chamber scenario? any guidance would be greatly (hack, hack) appreciated.

First thing to check would be the condition of your heat exchangers. If they're rusted through that would be causing this.
On a lesser scale but still possible is that the skirt around the engine isn't seated properly. Welcome to the board. Got pics?

Oil on th exhaust manifolds getting sucked up through the heat exchangers. Lower valve covers or return tubes dripping oil on the exhaust.

Are the air blower hoses (some quite large) all seated properly? If they are mis-aligned, they can suck air from the engine compartment and blow it right back into the cockpit. In addition to smelling really bad, it's potentially dangerous. PLEASE drive your 911 with the windows wide open until you're sure it's not blowing exhaust gasses at you!
