Project turbo 69` UPDATE
I relize that the part 1 section of this project must be real tuff on anyone how has poor bandwidth so I started a new one to continue where I left off.
See part 1 at : http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/128410-project-turbo-69-making-suggestions-welcome.html Today The car got its HRE 540 black anodized wheels 17/8" in front 235/40/17 kumho`s 17/9" in the rear 255/40/17 kumho`s Kurt Williams http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066448598.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066448624.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1066448694.jpg |
Nice wheels! Where did you get them, and how much? Thanks
|
Also finished the dash repainting and got the rebuilt S gauges installed. Found a really cool oil temp gauge that has a red overheat light built into it(yes its hooked up too)at the top of the needle sweep. The tach will be swaped out in the future in favor of a turbo unit so I have a low key boost gauge. I will have to have it modified to look like an early gauge. BTW , I do still need a 91 or 92 C2 Turbo tachometer if anyone has one for sale.

Got them on ebay last month. I paid $1850.00 + shipping which is better than $4600.00 from HRE. Plus its a 4-6 week wait for them to make them in the SC/CARRERA offset. The guy screwed me and one of them(rear) is bent by .100 which is usable but im not happy. Will send it back to HRE when the motor swap is happening next month. They told me $700.00 to rebuild it. That sounds a little high and I may also consider just buying a new one. It did balance nicely but I have not yet driven the car on the open road so I really dont know what it feels like yet.

Damn..nice looking car.

it's looking great kurt! what black did you use for the dash? satin, gloss, semi-gloss, flat?
|
semi gloss
|
What finish is correct for the dash ? I assumed semi gloss and went for it. Anyone know ?

Kurt I thought about bidding on those wheels as well. That's abummer that one of them is jacked. That's one of the scary things about e-bay.

Kurt:
Great looking car as others have noted. What color blue is that? It's really sharp! Keep us posted as you progress with this car. Thanks.;) |
Doug,
Its called Nogaro blue. Also known as Roenblau Mist in german. Its a factory special order Audi color with heavy pearl content. Kurt Williams |
I've shipped perfectly good wheels before by UPS, packed them well and had them totally damaged by UPS in shipping. Sometimes I think those monkees TRY to break stuff.

got alot more done . This past week I put in a new black headliner, a perfect dash pad from one of my parts cars, as well as both door panels(from the parts cars as well) . Oh yea also the rear deck panel and rear inner panels, and quarter glass. All I need now is a new carpet set, and some early sport seats(wanted to buy cash waiting). Ttal time this week was about 20 hrs and that was with working around business hours and the world series. Needless to say I am fatigued and beaten. I am presently getting together the additional parts I need for the turbo motor install. Here`s a few pictures of my progress at this time.

Im happy to say thay every step so far including the headliner has gone smooth, too smooth !!!! I hope the motor swap dont catch things up with me. Whats driving me to get this done in such a short amount of time(about 3 months from scratch) is the lust for turbo power in a car that weighs less than 2500 lbs . I just cant stop working on it every chance I get. It should be a rocket.

Sweet ride Kurt. Can't wait to see it finished.

That looks awesome.
Have you come up with any viable workarounds for the intercooler problem? This is such an amazing sleeper-style project that it'd be great to find some alternative to putting the king-size tail on a narrow-body car. |
This car's gonna turn out to be one sick early car. Kurt, awesome job on the paint and choice of powerplant (boost in an early car baby, yeah!!!!), can't wait to see the finished product.

Amir and Ash thanks for the compliments. Jack I just joined the rennlist bulliten and was searching for tail options while using a turbo motor with the intercooler. There is a guy on there that claims the ducktail will fit with mods to the inside only. I am going to order a ducktail tomorrow to have it ready for trial fitting once the motor is in. Problem is my aftermarket intercooler is probably twice the size of his but its worth it to me if I can use a ducktail. I would like nothing more than to retain the early look while having that power undercover. Funny thing is your car is on that same page with the turbo ducktail car. Heres the link.

BTW guys , do you think I have a chance of getting a spread in Excellance mag with this car. The only other plans for it are vintage sport buckets, flat blaclk (stealth) 4 point roll bar, and a factory NOS aluminum RSR strut bar I just bought from a guy in germany(have to weld in mounting tabs on that one and dont want to hurt the paint but will go for it once I find a fuel tank or cell)
