bosch blue coil

howdie people,

so i got me new ditri caps , bosch blue coil,MSD and magnecor cables...

now i'm a newbie at this and don't want to start ripping out the old gear , then get stuck at something..

my plan is to simply replace things as i go

1 old cables goe , magnecor's go in
2then out goes the old bosch coil in with the blue coil
3 new distri cap and rotor
4then the major work of trying to get the MSD mounted somewhere in the engine bay .... i'm used to tearing things apart but actually drilling holes and getting something properly attached is a challenge to me...

is this an OK thing to do?
so i suppose step 1,2 and 3 are straight forward
but can i run the engine with the blue coil, without replacing the bosch CD box? or will i damage something ??

eeeh , the big book of 101 projects says : use a blue coil for project 24 installing a MSD ignition unit

it is listed as compatible in the MSD manual too

Marriage on the rocks? Flame dying out after many years? A new coil ensures many years of reliable sparks. Please note: The Bosch Blue Coil is not to be used as an OEM replacement. It will not work with your Bosch CD unit.

The Bosch "blue" coil works quite well with the MSD systems

Noah,

I believe you got it reversed!

The Bosch CDI-unit is NOT compatible with any conventional ignition coils, of which the blue coil definitely is! The turns ratio and inductance of the primary of the Bosch 0.221.121.001 and 0.221.121.006 CDI-system 'ignition transformers' [in Porsche factory-speak] are radically different from traditional coils!
