When I last drove the car it started smoking big-time and the oil gauge was pegged at full.
Previously this was from a sticking dash gauge that was cured with few taps, but this time when I checked the oil level there was oil up in the neck itself!! The pressure had been good previously-about 20lbs at 1000 rpm and 60lbs at 3000rpm- but the temps had not been rising above 180 the last couple times I drove it which I attributed to low outside temps. The Weber float levels were within specs and oil was not stinking of gas, so there had to be something going on with the oil control system:mabye a stuck thermostat or a blocked oil cooler?? I changed the oil and got half a quart from the tank and the rest from the case while oil pressure remained at 60lbs at idle with more big time smoking. Since this when the engine is cold, could it be a bad cooler/thermostat or is there some thing going on with a pump pressure relief valve? Last edited by john70t; 10-19-2003 at 01:57 PM.. |

John once the oil level got high enough oil got sucked into the air filter housing. Until you clean that out and run the car for a while you will keep getting the smoke.

Good call Kurt, I'm still wondering about 60lbs of pressure at idle(?). It could be the gauge but I don't want to lose the few seal that aren't leaking yet.
As to the level, I have to go measure if there is more used oil there than I originally put in. Strange thing is this seemed to have happened suddenly because I had check the oil level recently.
