The Power of the P-Car

I drove the 911 today in to work (normally reserved for fun or weekends or trips). The reason? I needed the feeling it gives me when I drive it. The reason? I am going to my best friend's funeral today and give the Eulegy. Why the 911 in these circumstances instead of old yeller (the longbed diesel pick up?) Because the P car requires that I concentrate when I drive, and in return, it gives me good feelings that are hard to describe. Maybe its the sense of tightness and response to driver inputs, or maybe its the air thru the open windows and moonroof. Maybe its that sound as you wind thru the gears. In any event, I am glad I have the car to help me maintain some inner balance today. Wish me luck, and god speed to my fallen buddy.

My condolences on your loss, Bruce. I'll be driving my P-Car with the lights on today, in honor of your fallen comrade.

Bruce,

My condolences, and no explanation was needed as to why you drove the 911 today.

I understand the need for strength, today, as I buried my parents in 2000 and 2002 ... those were the two hardest days I have ever had to endure.

Good luck!

My condolences.
I find that I do some of my best thinking when I'm thinking about something else. Occupying your brain with driving the car, as well as providing your brain with the sensory inputs you describe might help you subconciously "think through" other stuff that's on your mind today.

Good luck w/ the eulogy. ("knock 'em dead").

Bruce:

Sorry for your loss. There are many things that bring peace of mind to us. Each of us has something different. Being in your Porsche obviously brings you to a "special place" in your mind.

Hopefully it will bring a sense of wholeness to your eulegy, and rememberances of your friend.

My condolences. Good luck with the eulogy. BTDT. It so happens that a eulogy is one circumstance where it's okay if you fail to completely maintain your composure. Still, I wish you luck.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I only hope he enjoyed the ride.
People often ask me why there is no radio in my car.
I just look and smile.

I drove my '80 911SC to my fathers' funeral where I gave the eulogy. My father was always nuts about my p-car fascination, and he had a 356 speedster for a while. Everyone in the church knew why I was in a bright red 911 (standing out in the procession) instead of my stately silver Mercedes 420.

I still think of him whenever I approach the red line in 2nd gear on the onramp, and then have to decelerate into the traffic flow... He'd have liked that.

Condolences on your friend.

I too am sorry to hear about your loss.
Humans tend to do what they wish to do the most at times of sorrow, and this shows that your 'vise' is a healthy one. He would have respect for that...

My Condolences. I have never had to give a eulegy, but I have written one. It was for my fathers best friend who was my childhood idol (and still is). It was the hardest thing I have had to do yet in my life, and for that I am very thankfull. Good luck.

7 years ago I had to deliver the eulogy for my best friend who committed suicide. I didn't even get halfway through it.

I didn't have a 911 at the time, I sure could have used one. I never got over his death but I did get used to it. That probably doesn't make sense to anyone but me.

My point? I share your loss and pain. You and your buddy will be in my prayers tonight.

My condolences as well.

I had a friend die from a line of duty injury this last Spring. He was the person who inspired me to purchase my second 911. I drove my CAB to the services in honor of him, in my full dress uniform. godspeed

I'm sorry for your loss.

I totally understand your reasoning for driving the 911 today and you have my condolences. I would drive mine in the same circumstances.

I bought my 911 during a very desperate time in my life, and it is a great reminder of my struggles and triumphs in life. When I mentioned selling it once, my lady reminded me of the connection "Bastard" and I have...good medicine for life.

Peace be with you and your friend Bruce. Wuf! Wuf!

Have a good weekend gang.

Sorry to hear about your loss, I too have been there. The P cars are our source of comfort in good times and in bad. I wish I had my car when my Mom died, I guess I would have just sat and reflected for a while or after 9/11 for the friends and business aquaintances that perished that day in the WTC. Use the P car for what it is intended, a place of reflection and deep thought and most of all, the tactile, aural and visual pleasure we get from them. God rest your buddy and condolences to you and the family.

Lost my dad in January and his dad( my grandfather) in August, and it sucked big time both times. I remember one of the last things my father and I did was to play a few games of chess, I am no chess player, but we played anyway. While it was very nice to do something together before the inevitable end, it was difficult to watch him have trouble remembering how the pieces moved. At that time he had been throughmore than 1 year of 3 differrent chemo treatments and was only a few weeks from the end. They kept the cancer from his lungs, but the colon and liver were to destroyed to do anything for. He didn't die of pnuemoinia as many do, but he basically starved to death as his intestines constricted and deformed from the cancer.

I feel your pain man....he was you best friend, you have some fond memories I'm sure, archive them and treasure them.
