what to look for in a 2.2
 

new to the engine i know a 2.2 would be better then a 2.7. what should be looked for in this type of conversion ? like upgrades wise etc ..it is currently in a 1976 that i am thinking of buying?

A 2.2 in a '76???

Sounds a little strange to me. The only reason I can think someone would do this was 'cause they came across a cheap 2.2 rather than rebuild the 2.7 or slot in a 3.0 (or 3.2, 3.6..............).

Heavier car, smaller engine. Not a great combo.

THIS WAS EMAILED TO ME " The Speedometer registers in kilos. The gauges all work except for the odometer and the clock. The gauges are for oil, amps, temp, and fuel level. The tach also works. The 6 cylinder engine runs great! The previous owner told me that the engine is a 2.2, and that it has less than 20,000 miles on a rebuild. It has Weber Carbs. There are no leaks. It has a 4 speed transmission, and it also feels very good, as does the clutch. The car is currently registered, and drives great, with no known mechanical problems." ......are you saying that a 2.2 cant push a 76? seems a 912e was doing it

It sems like a strange combe to me too. I think the 2.2 can move it along well, but WHAT 2.2? T, E, or S ? I think the mating of a 2.2 and the newer gearbox is strange also along with a four speed. As far as what to look for on the engine as upgrades? Juice tensioners. Bosch dizzy as you will have a hard time finding parts for a Marelli. Can you give us the engine numbers?

Huh? Personally, I wouldn't be attracted to a car with a smaller engine than what originally came in it, and on top of that, couple it to a 4-speed transaxle. Of course, that's just my opinion.
