Can SC Targa rear flares fit a coupe car?

I have been contacted by a listmember that is willing to remove the rear SC fenders from his '79 Targa, any place that I want.

This is great for several reasons, the more metal to work with, the less amount of filler and blending, and potential notice that there has been body work done.

The other is that he is within driving distance to me, so that I may pick them up instead of paying for oversized shipping.

My question is:

My car is a '72 coupe, his is a '79 Targa.....how/where is the best place for him to cut and remove the rear 1/4's so that I have the most to work with. I would assume up the engine bay; include the rear light buckets; at door jamb? but where across the top??

I was hoping to weld the rear 1/4 as a complete, and have it attach at the rear 1/4 window framing, and all be hidden by the wing window.

I would also like to have the lower rocker to come as far forward as it can.

Does this all make sense?

Does anyone have any resource pages/pictures that outline a good "cut" line?

The other issue that I am perplexed about is that my '72 has an exterior oil fill door......what is the best way to re-incorporate this to the near rear fenders?

Is that enough questions for one post ?

chris

My '73 coupe has the flares from an '87 Targa. I cut about an inch behind the door, about an inch from the rear glass, and included part of the taillight bucket for easy alignment. Basically, took as much off the donor car as possible, and let the body man decide how much of it to use. He used most of it. Looks great.

I'm not sure there would be any advantage to using any part of the engine bay. Leave the original structure complete. Just add the flares.
