Help Me identify What's on this Oil Cooler
I bought a Used Carerra Oil Cooler, and I'm trying to identify some parts on it. (see picture)
I'm trying to identify what parts A, B, and C are on the cooler. Thanks! Chuck ![]()

a= thermal fan switch probe commercially available in most auto parts stores as part of a hayden fan relay control kit and it will activate your fan to come on at about 180-190 degrees- when you buy the rest of the kit (it will come with new probe)- use this one
b= ground wire hook up from oem wiring loom when c is installed c= original fan switch that came on at 260-270 degrees- do not hook up to this one! that's too hot |

Doesn't look like an oil cooler, it looks like a story.
My interpretation: "C" is the factory thermostat. The factory thermostat works by closing to ground, completing the circuit in the trigger side of the fan relay, which leads us to.... "B" looks like a terminal for a ground connection, because the ground through the mounting bracket was inadequate. The previous owner then realized that the factory thermostat sucks, because it doesn't turn on until it gets to 240° F, which is too damn late, which leads us to... "A" which is an aftermarket thermostat to turn on the fan at a more reasonable (safer) temp. EDIT: Dave beat me by 3 min Tom |
