How much power am I missing with IDE 40 Webbers?

I have just disovered that the PO left the original size 41 webers on the car when they swapped the engine for the 2.7 twin plugged unit!!!!
I have also read that the 41's are good for 200HP whereas the 46's are good for 250HP.
I reckoned this engine was putting out 230HP but I guess not!?

Also could this be a reason for the detonation when I floor it hard.
The Detonation only comes on when floored and the revs go over 4K.
I beleive 4K revs is where you are supposed to feel the difference with the larger carb size.

Anyone had similar experiences with up grading carbs?
thanks, Ben

Me thinks you mean Weber 40's,

They can work fine with a 2.7 , You should check to see what venturis are installed, what mains, emulsion tubes and air corrector jets also.

are you sure your igniton advance is set correctly?

Thanks for the comeback Tim,
I have no idea if the 'venturis are installed, what mains, emulsion tubes and air corrector jets' are correct.
And your right they are 40's - sorry it's late here (UK)
The iginition may be off, but I tried rotation the distributor a bit and could not get an adjutsment that erradicated`the detonation and still gave the engine it's perkiness and smoothness.
Is this the correct way to adjust. I know I am supposed to use a timing gun etc. but the Car is now in Normandy where there are no decent garages. The nearest is Paris.
I may have to bring the car back to the UK to get it finely tuned down the road.
I guess soem investigation with the current setup is neccesary before changing the carbs out?
rgds
Ben

No need to install the rare and quite expensive 46's. For a small investment you could get larger venturis (32's), and the correct jets, emulsion tubes etc.

Im not sure if Pelican carries the internal parts for the webers, shoot them an email and see?
