OK I'm an idiot

Just a note for all the newbie's. I have wanted new wheels and tires for my 85 cab and have been asking about tires and what will fit not fit etc. Stock on my 85 cab was 15" 6&7. I finally got a set 16" 7and 8s with 205-50 on the front and 225-45 on the rear. I put them next to my old tires and they didn't look a lot wider. They are about an 1" lower than stock tires. Anyhow because they looked about the same size as the other wheels I began to conclude that I had been a victim of the selling 6 and 7s as 7 and 8s that we keep reading about. I went out to assure myself and upon looking at my old wheels I actually had 15" 7 and 8s already installed. Someone had just put stock tire sizes on the wider wheels. Crap.... So moral of the story for the new guys is be sure of what you have before you go looking to change things. I still like the 16" size for the tire choice but feel real dumb about not checking to see what I really had first. Maybe I should append this to the dumb things I have done thread.

So are you saying that someone misrepresented and sold you the 6/7's as 7/8's?

No the new wheels are just what I paid for 16" 7/8s. I am just saying I already had 15" 7 & 8 inch wheels just didn't know it.

I wouldn't worry. I'm sure you'd soon find a buyer for either set, if it comes to that.

The stock 15" size is 7 and 8. You had the stock 15" wheels, they were wider than the stock 16" wheels by an inch each.

OK as the subject stated I'm still an idiot. But a few more years on the Pelican site and I can move up to only being stupid.

The 16's will still offer an improvement in handling.

What Masraum said. You certainly did upgrade, 16" wheels are preferable in terms of looks, tire selection, and performance.

Would it be a worthwhile effort to try a set of hoosiers A3S03 on the 15" wheels for A/X. the purpose of the 16" wheels was to get better tire selection but tirerack does have 205x50x15 and 225x45x15 in the autocross compound. $$$ tho

The 15"s will make great AutoX/track wheels if you get sticky rubber for them, shorter will mean a lower gear ratio for better acceleration, also less unsprung weight as well as a shorter radius to that weight all of which will help with acceleration. Also that way you get to drive the snot out of your tires without having to buy street tires all of the time or worry about flat spotting your street tires.

You can put larger tires on the 16" 7 & 8's. Those are the same size tires I have on my 6 & 7's. I'm pretty sure you can do 225 front and 246 rear. I have 225s on my 7" wheels, and have been running them that way for 6 years. The previous owner had the same size tires as well.

6 x 15 and 7 x 15 were standard ... the wider 7 & 8 set was optional, as was the 6 x 16 & 7 x 16's, per the spec book!
