Mike, what is the name of that yard? Wonder if there are any of those around here. I'm sure if a guy knew exactly what he was looking for, there's probable lots of goodies there.

Paul,
It is Silver Star Recycling in Rancho Cordova, CA. Silver Star sponsored a swap meet and car show for our SVR PCA today. Kind of a small, low key event. First time I've gone. Some nice cars on display. One guy had two Weissachs for sale, one of each color, and both in very nice condition.

Need a muffler? Try shipping this via UPS...

Rancho Cordova, near Sacramento, seems to be the mecca of auto wreckers. I bought parts from there in the '70s (as a kid ).

Absolutely nothing except paint, interior and color keyed 7's and 8's. It was a marketing piece "ploy" done by Porsche. I owned a new one. And fwiw the interior on these cars was a bear to maintain. The leather wore very poorly and many (or most) of them have needed to be re-dyed by now. Mine went away after 3 years.
It was a head turner in it's day and still is if you've never seen one.

Did you find out what he was asking for them & how many miles they had?

Paul, the platinum one had about 50k miles, excellent interior, original paint in great shape: $22k. He's owned it since 1990. Had window sticker, tools, records, proper upgrades, etc. Way cool. Black one was not quite as nice, and I didn't catch the price.

Weissach also had (has) front and rear spoilers, bilsteins, full leather, it was a bit more than some decals and colors.

There was a '77 Turbo Carrera there for sale, very clean, 80's gold BBS wheels - [b]$28k[/ib]!!!!

There was another guy with a '79SC with a 3.6L conversion, with the heater fan setup from hell. They had modified the rear tin to approximate SC tin, then installed 2 little fans to push some air. I went with him thru the swap, found the correct 964 rear tin and sold him one of my heater tubes. Then we went into the junkyard and found a vaccum cannister ($10) and hooked that up on his engine for the secondary plenum.

Am I a nice guy or what?

I picked up a set of Elephant lines (thanks Chuck) but my big score was a cab top cover for $20 - the guy actually chased me down to sell it to me! He used to have a cab and didn't need the cover anymore.

I also found a decent driver's side targa/cab visor for $10, and I won a t-shirt and a $100 cert for Silver Star in the raffle.

All in all a good outing.

Then I went home, finished roofing my garage, then went and borrowed an airless sprayer and primed 2 of the exterior walls.

Yes, I know. I owned one when they were new in 1980. Bilsteins were always an option as were the spoilers. Don't read anything into my comments; it's just that is was a "done up" car for marketing purposes and that's the question that was asked in the first place. Same engine, same body.
Folks get all worked up over these cars and perhaps they are somewhat collectible to the right buyer. I personally prefer the earlier cars because of the weight of the post '73 cars. Porsche were fighting for market and this was the German answer to what the American and other car companies were doing to move product. "Special Editions" that are not too special because of federal regulations. Your's still have the 85mph speedometer?
The Doric Grey interior was unusual with the red piping but spoilers and Bilsteins don't make it anything too far out of the ordinary for that era. Besides anyone could order spoilers. The one on the Weissach is the original '75 Carrera style which was the most tasteful of the bunch.

It's a pretty car but it is still a dolled up SC and there is nothing in the world wrong with that because that's all you could get unless you went Gray Market hunting for Turbos; but that's another story.

BTW, I don't recall any decals whatsoever.

Regards,

Tom
