Time to replace clutch. Suggestions?
T/o bearing started whining like a cat last night. I guess it's clutch time. I see there are a few different options to the stock Sachs setup. Anyone have the "Power" set up with the aluminum pressure plate and corresponding disc installed? Comments appreciated. Autocrossing and DE's planned for next year.
On the bright side, I guess it'll be easier to do the tensioner upgrade with the motor out. |
The stock Sachs are good and reliable. Quizz the other guys but I think some of the power setups are a bit like an on/off switch.

stock works fine. light assemblies tend to make the car harder to launch without bogging a bit.

I have a Truman aluminum flywheel plus a Sachs (I think...) aluminum clutch. I find my wife's Boxster harder to get off the line than my so-equipped '83 SC.

Sachs Powerclutch is a reasonably priced upgrade. The difference of a few pounds in the 3.2 and earlier clutch/flywheel won't make a huge difference like in the 964/993s where 30# can be shaved off.

I switched to the Sachs Power clutch and hardly felt a difference in the 'grip' of it. However, the motor is quicker to rev and the Al pressure plate sure is purdy.

A lighter preasure plate might expedite your heel and toe blip.
I have the Sachs Power clutch (Aluminum PP) set up works great for 230hp (my hp, might handle more too?) and less DE/AX action. I'd be curious if the Power pack kit still has the slotted disc. Some dont and I was told the springs in the non slotted disc are 10% stiffer than factory stock? anyone? |
