84mm muffler Q

My euro 79sc has a fabspeed premuffler which I’m very happy with. It fits well, gives a little little more horsepower and a subtle but slightly better exhaust note. It was relatively inexpensive and easier then I thought to install. I’d recommend it to anyone with an sc.

Now I’m thinking about adding the one in, one out, sport muffler with the 84mm tail pipe.

Since I live in the California bay area SSIs won’t pass smog inspection. After doing a few searches on the site I’ve read some posts that say a premuffler and a sport muffler give almost the same horsepower increases as SSIs. But I’ve also read that the muffler is only for tuning the way the exhaust sounds.

What can I rationally expect from the addition of this muffler in terms of hp?

I was hoping a few people who have more experience then I do could comment on this muffler as it relates to my stock 3.0 liter with a lightened flywheel.

Thanks for the help.

I put a fabspeed premuff and a Dansk one in and one out with the 70mm end and it works great. You will feel a difference in performance and it will still be quiet on the inside without any resonance. My pipe was only about $300 thru pelican because it was the aluminized version, not the full polished (and unseen) SS unit. The insides of the muffler are the same on the 70 and 84mm, and they said they both flow the same.

toolman,

Thanks for responding, I had no idea the 70mm and the 84mm would flow the same.

Did you add the pre muffler and the muffler at the same time? I wanted to get an idea of the type of hp gains, if any, a sport muffler would add since I already have the pre muffler.

Can anyone add any additional info?

Yes, I did both modifications at the same time, but there was a pretty good power increase at the time. The sound outside the car was greatly improved also. The 70mm tip is about twice the size of the stock exhaust tip and it points straight back, not down and to the side. It can be cut off so it does if you desire.
