Gratuitous photos of 2.7 teardown...

So Sat. I headed over to my buddy's house to help him tear down Marcesq's old 2.7 engine, which he plans to transplant into his '70T RS clone.

Yes, we both know this will not be a huge power increase. But he really wants to do this. He may keep the Webers from the 2.2l in there now. But for the moment, we just want to get the engine all cleaned up, some stuff powder coated, seals replaced.

Using the correct yoke and engine stand makes a valve adjustment about as easy as changing the oil. This was very easy (thanks to 101 Projects).

Where we did run into trouble, however, was separating the fan housing from the alternator. See below where I had it on top of two 4x4's. Whacking it made no difference. I still need to do this job. Oh, and check out the concourse '71 Ferrari Daytona in the background. I sure loved moving that engine around the garage next to that expensive toy.

And here are two of his toys side by side. The green one is a '67E that had been built up to an S engine. We'll be sorting that car out once he gets his BendPak lift installed in his new garage.

It was a very productive day and I even enjoyed adjusting someone else's valves. I had never done this without Marc or someone else holding my hand through the job. This time I was the leader and it went pretty well. I think we'll need help getting that CIS all back together though.

Great pictures Richard! Better you than me moving the engine near someone else's Daytona! Who's the lawn chair for? Not sitting down on the job, were you?

I'm taking my 77 2.7 down, too. At least two pulled studs, probably more - I only took off one valve cover!

Same deal with the alternator. It turns out that my fan housing is cracked (dirt is in the crack, so it's been there a while). A royal pain gettiing the fan assembly out of the housing. Now I can't get the fan off the alternator, either. Off to Harbor Freight to find a suitably sized gear puller.

I just did this work on my 70 with no trouble at all! The assemblies just required a couple taps with a piece of wood, and all came apart beautifully. The 77, however, needs a new housing and every single one of the threads will need to be died before reassembly.

Well, this fan housing is not at all cracked and I want to keep it that way. Fan came off just using my hands. But I'm at a loss for this alt. separation.
