'78 911SC - Won't start...have spark...no fuel

'78 911SC won't start but has plenty of spark from the plug wire. Bypassed terminals 30 & 87 on the fuel pump relay (by pulling the relay and jumpering 30 & 87 in the socket) to get juice to the fuel pump, but still no go. All the fuses by the relay look good. I"m new to Porsche repair but race a stroked '70 Nova for fun and have had a lot of garage experience. Obviously that and 2 bits might get you a cup of coffee when you don't know anything about Porsches. By the way, where is the fuel pump located? Behind the fuel filter? Didn't see any wires going to it if that is it. Any tips or tricks or ideas before I tear into it?? (Yeah...I'm a real threat!!! :>})

Thanks...

Monty

The fuel pump is in the front of the car behind the gas tank. It's in the space where the steering rack is located under the car. You have to remove the front suspension pan to get to it. Thus ends my knowledge of the 911 fuel pump.

I'd check for a simple blown fuse before tearing into the pump. also if you disconnect the fuel filter you can get an idea of fuel pump in action (just be careful of fuel spraying all over and igniting on hot areas. If the pump is ok then the next thing would be the fuel filter being plugged, then the fuel distributor (that part with all the six injector lines going to the top . You can check to see if the distributor plate under the air filter cover is stuck shut by pulling on the lever under the plate inside the air box area.
