New to the list
Thought I should introduce myself after lurking for a few weeks. I built a 914-6 17 years ago and have always missed it so I bought an 84 Targa after a lot of looking. Since I am somewhat picky, well ok, really picky (Like most Porsche owners), I thought it would be better to buy one that needed work for less money so I could afford to do what I wanted to the car and not spend a fortune. Finally found an 84 with a transmission problem that was really clean. I drove it home and jumped into restoration (although it ran really good). What I am working on depends on what parts arrive in the mail! You can see the ongoing work at

Welcome to the board Paul. This is a great resource, wish I would have found it before I bought my car. I could not get your link to work, even when I cut & paste. Please post some pics with details.

Wow, talk about jumping in with both feet. That is quite a project you have going. Looks like you have a well equipped shop & plenty of room. What are you using for a technical reference? Yes, I have a pretty nice shop at my house, 1200 sq ft. plus a garage. Shop has Lathe, Mill, Tig, Mig, press etc. Been a Machinist and home mechanic all my life and I always enjoy a project like this. I brought the 911 home, gave the wife a ride and then tore the whole car apart to go through the car mechanically but I just couldn't stop ordering parts....go figure, it's some sort of disease!! My wife just laughes at me but she comes out for a look once and awhile. I already sent the wheels to Al Reed for a refinish. It should be a nice car when finished but I can not drive a 20 year old car without checking\rebuilding all the important mechanical issues first, I am rather anal about such things. I want to be able to hop in it and never worry about anything. Bought a Bentley book for the transmission but haven't used it much as the car is pretty simple.
