G50 input shaft seal removal tool

I'm helping a friend with a G-50 tranmission with a leaky input shaft seal. Per the shop manual, tool number 9251 (OEM 00072192510) was ordered to extract the seal but it is too large. It appears the smaller tool P386(OEM 00072138600) is required but this is the one referenced for the 915 tranmission. These are tools that look like an "apple corer". Is there an error in the shop manual or did we miss something in terms of a mid-year part change? Thanks, Jim

I did the seal on my G50 and didn't need any special tool. I don't even remember anything special about doing the seal. I do remember there is an updated throw out bearing and you need a new T/O bearing housing. Installling the seal isn't bad either. Just be careful.

A tool is definitely needed in this case; the seal is not in the clutch release bearing guide tube but is mounted down in the hole to the differential housing. A simple pick or hook tool was not even moving the seal as it is quite stuck. All these implements did was deform the metal body of the seal. There is very little room to work with the input shaft in place; difficult to drive or drill anything to loosen the seal without risk of damaging the sealing surfaces of the case and input shaft. We do not intend to disassemble the tranmission. Jim
