Thank God he's a Porscheophile

I've found what seems to be a pretty good deal on a solid early 911 that has a leak from one cylinder jug. The boy and I have done a lot of work on the Carrera, and since he graduates from HS this year, and will go to NASCAR Institute in the summer, I'm considering buying the project car (for him) for us to work on, since he'd rather work on a Porsche and drive it than eat.

It may be the last project we get to do together...Is it reasonable to think that we can reseal the engine without major help?

After saying that I've torn down an engine and build it all the way back up completely(half on one motor half on another) I don't see any real problem with that if you get the right tools, work slowly and watch all the little things. The biggest problem I am encountering with my engine is where to build it since my "shop" is basicly a barn with a dirt floor.

BTW with any early 911 the biggest thing to watch out for is RUST!

My wife and I have just discovered the fun of NASCAR. Been a clockwise guy all my life but hey it's racing and it's on TV! Now if anyone can give me any tips on how to put a gun rack in a Targa I'll be all set!

I noticed you are in Raleigh, Is that the ebay car in REidsville? Looks nice from the outside. Check for rust and then more rust and then check again. Some areas are easy to fix, like a suspension pan. Other areas like rockers and jack supports are not.

The engine rebuld should be very straighforward. Wayne's book looks to be an invaluable resourse. Remember, there are lots of Pelicans in your area. Use them for help if/when you get stuck.

Go for it!!! I wish I could have done the same when I was younger.

Yep, I am a lucky father. Although the boy is seriously afflicted by the two most dangerous liquids on earth: gasoline and perfume.

I wouldn't have it any other way.....!

My father passed this summer, looking back I cherished every minute spent arguing with him while working on projects.........as for your engine I'm no expert, but I would say It's do-able with enough research and refrence's for help. If you haven't already done so, read Wayne's Engine Rebuilding Book to get a good idea of what to expect.
