LSD for 100$ (i'm seing colors)

It's not "Phantomgrip" or "white rabbit"...

Sometimes it pays to be observant.

As some of you know, we recently bought freshly rebuilt 930 gearbox for our project-car for ~1000$. It was a good deal but it missed side-plate which we had to buy for ~100$. We are absolutely sure that we want LSD for track work but we couldn't find ZF-style Porsche LSD under 1000$ anywhere. Speedo-sensor was missing too.
So what we were looking was:
1000$ gearbox
1000$ LSD
100$ sideplate
50$ backlash adjustment
xxx$ speedo sensor, tranny mount etc.

1k$ LSD was a bit too much for our constrained budget so we actually contemplated welding the diff stiff and calling it a day.

Then I stumbled over this little add:
930 box, 1200$. I lazily dialed the number and talked to nice older gentleman who explained that box was crated leftover from his old -88 930 which got RUF-converted directly after purchase. He drove it straight from dealer in southern Sweden to RUF in Germany, where it got removed for RUF 5-speed with exactly 1120 miles on it's neck, just broken-in :-)

Case closed.

I promptly found a buyer for our zero miles albeit non LSD-d gearbox and sold it for 1100$ to a friend who drag-races his 930 a lot (jolly good price too), then we drove away and picked up a wooden crate with "RUF" symbols and fresh-looking gearbox with "SPERRDIFFERENZIAL"-sticker on it, new clutch (unfortunately rubber-damped), speedo sender, clutch cable and gearbox-mount all included.

Total price:
160$ including fuel and approx. 10 hours of my time writing adds, making calls etc. (Being a student again, I don't value my time as much as I did when i worked in IT-industry )

Only issue we're afraid of is that gearbox was sitting still in cold storage for 15 years, filled with oil. It's seals might be dry, altough we cannot see any leaks. First step is to rotate it manually and then change fluid. It's relativly easy to purchase Synthetic 75W-90 GL-5 LS fluid here, is there any problem with using synthetic oil? Anyone expirienced leaks when installing long-time crated gearboxes?
