Rear shock install question
 

Hi,

Removed the rear shocks on my '69 911e today. The shocks were white and made by KYB.

I'm installing Bilstein shocks. I bought them from a guy that had them on a '70 911E before he turned it into a track car. At the time we checked part numbers and the catalog indicated they were for 69-71 911s. I have them partially installed in the car now so don't have the part number now.

The botton shock bolts that were on the car with the KYBs are too short. The botton of the Bilsteins are much "wider" if that makes sense. I need a set of longer bolts to complete the install. The new bolts need to be about 3/8 - 1/2 longer to get the washers and bolts on.

Anyone know which size bolt I'll need?

BTW, the rear shock bolt was on their very tight! Any impact wrench did manage to break it loose.

Why don't you simply take the old bolt to an industrial supply store, or from McMaster-Carr, Grainger or MSC if local...and get one that is 3/8" -1/2" ( oops ....10-13 mm) longer ?? Also, are you using washers on one ( or both) sides? Take that width into consideration, too.

Yeah, that was my next step...I was hoping that a fellow pelican had "been there done that" and could let me know which bolts to order. I don't have any good metric hardware sources locally. Marine stores in town sell a nice variety of nuts and bolts (and stainless stuff) but it's not metric. Yes I'm using washers on both sides another 10 - 13mm will do it for me. Thanks for your thoughts.

OK, the bolts that were on there were
M12X1.5X85

I think M12X1.5X100mm will do the trick.

Does Porsche have a part number for these?
