First post, and some project pictures
 

Hey everyone! I've been lurking for a while now and thought I'd say hello and post some pictures of my 72T Targa project. I've got the front part of the unibody, gas tank, and suspension stripped and painted with POR-15. I replaced the original front suspension bushings, and upgraded to Boxster brakes (I don't really need them, but I couldn't help myself from tinkering). Here are some pics of my progress so far:

Here's a shot of the car when I started stripping the paint on the car. Originally I was just going to repaint the car (signal yellow), but the project has expanded.

The projects for the winter are installing a front oil cooler behind the right battery box, and replacing the main fuse blocks with new ATO style blocks. Should be fun!

Ash: The car had 15" replica Fuchs on it when I bought it (15x7 front, 15x8 rear). They clear the Boxster calipers with no problems. They look a little goofy small, but I kinda like them.

looks great. It almost looks like all new sheetmetal. POR-15 you say ha. I will have to get some for future use. How long is the drying time ?

ATO style blocks. my fuse block sucks, is this a direct bolt on? Kevin

Are you going to remove the Targa bar before the repaint - How did you decide?

I'm sure my wife wishes that I would have just bought a newer 911. But that's not what I wanted ;) .

I used 2 coats of POR15 rust preventative paint and 2 coats of POR15 chassis coat black top coat, 2 days for all 4 coats. It seems like the coatings got stronger with time after I was finished with the top coats. Definitely stick to the instructions, and wear a mask and gloves.

I'm pretty sure that I can get the ATO fuse blocks to work. I got them from waytekwire.com. I stripped and repainted the trunk with POR15 silver. Here's a shot of the new blocks next to the original fuse blocks:

I had to trim the mounting ears off of the fuse blocks and drill some new mounting holes. Without the mounting ears, they're almost the same size as the original fuse blocks. I've got them mounted to an aluminum plate that I'll mount to the original fuse block brackets.

I haven't figured out what I'm going to do with the targa bar when I get to painting the car, but it looks like it's easy enough to remove.

That looks like a nice clean, rust-free tub! What did you do to remove the factory undercoating?

There were a couple of spots in the unibody that were rusted through. I had to weld in some small patch panels. I used some wood chisels to srape off the majority of the undercoating (shown here on the gas tank):

and then finished it off with a wire wheel on my 4.5" angle grinder (easily the most useful took for this phase of the project). 12000 rpm rocks!
