stereo system ideas??
I currently have the interior stripped out of my car and am about to start assembling the carpet, panels, and all the other odd peices that go in there. I was going to run the wires first for the stereo system but was hoping to get some ideas on what you all have done with your systems. I wanted to put something really nice in including nice speakers, maybe component speakers, maybe subs, I don't know yet. Here is what I was thinking: A nice headunit, nice speakers, maybe an amp, 8" subs (not really into the big thump, just want nice crisp bass).
What have you all done??? THanks, Mike |

Send a PM to Bell. He's the guy here...Better yet, just take your car to him, and turn him loose!

IMO start with 6.5 door seperates and then see if it's good enough. 5 1/4 are kinda bass volume limited IMO.........Ron

Mike,
Rod is a great guy that stands by the products he sells. He knows the ins and outs of the 911. Technical assistance also gets an A+. I have Focal components in the doors, Kenwoods in the rear shelf and a decent size amp under the front drivers seat. I'm a very happy customer. http://www.caraudioinnovations.com/

check out the forums over at www.elitecaraudio.com . if you can get past all the punk kids, there are a bunch of guys who know quite a bit. I'd say as a general guide for what you're after; Front components, probably fairly high end something like Focal, MB Quart, maybe even Rainbow if you can afford it. 8 inch subs are pretty wimpy, I'd say go for a good single 10 or 12 with plenty of juice to it. You'll need an amp, Probably a four channel would be a good choice so you can run a sub too. Remember, you can never have to much power. You can always turn it down, but if you don't have enough watts it'll just sound like crap. For head units, I like nakamichi and eclipse much better than anything else, but alpine and clarion among others make good stuff. Also, spring for good wiring, it does make a difference. As long as you've got the car apart, throw in some sound deadening like raamat or dynamat; you'll be amazed at what a difference it will make in your sound. Good luck...

I had Rod install "the system" in my SC 4 years ago, top notch installation & quality. Rod Birch in my opinion is the man to call for 911 audio. Last edited by Type911; 10-25-2003 at 05:33 AM.. |

Rod is involved in every install. And every once in awhile he'll assemble a list of custom installs through out the whole country. I buy everything from Rod. Focals, subs, etc..........Ron

I just finished installing a system in my '88 and I think it sounds incredible. Here are the specs:
Alpine 7995 XM receiver 6 Disc CD/MP3 changer Alpine EQ Focal Polykevlar 136k 5.25 components front Focal 6.5" 2 way rear 2 8" JL subs JL 500.5 Amp This thing rocks for about every type of music I can think of. I listen to everything from Pink Floyd to 50 Cent and everything in between. The system cost me ~ 3000.00 and I installed it myself. If you had someone do the install and build a custom box plan to add another 1k. |

Boston Acoustic speakers fit 911's perfectly, door and rear. Most any other (good) type of speaker will not fit a 911 without some cutting. 159$ for fronts, 129$ for rears, they are the good stuff, 75W were run to the fronts.
I went with Alpine 9815 (im switching to a similar Eclipse, cant stand the bright blue alpine head unit in my maroon interior). Two 10" MA subs. 600W kicker amp (not nearly enough for full capacity of the subs but the subs as is have already rattled my sunroof and doorlocks apart I believe -IE half power is still insane) I wouldnt get kenwood anything. -Matt |

Iam going on memory (all my records are at home, working today) I think I spent about $1800 total...including his installation. in-dash c/d player sony 500w amp (under seat) rear deck speakers door speakers sub-woofer enclosure w/ subs, matching carpet quality speaker wire, etc.. Tell him Chris from Durango sent you. He will get a laugh out of that, as I flew him down from Sacramento to my dad's place in Palm Springs, Ca to do the install. It was a sweet drive home to Colorado... His system still rocks as good as it did the day he installed it ![]() |

80scman,
Call Rod Birch. He learned how to install systems in Porsches by working on his own '78SC. He has many years of experience and provides great tech support if you want to DIY. |
