Difference Between 915 Clutch and 70-71 Clutch
What are the differences between a 70-71 clutch and a 915 clutch? They are both 225 mm pull type clutches. According to Wayne's book, the spring pressures are also higher on the 915's clutch. Looking at pictures and comparing them to the 2.2 I just took apart, it looks like the starter ring gear is attached to the clutch assembly on the 70-71's and to the flywheel on the 915's. Is this correct? Are there any other differences?

No, they both use the same flywheel. The ring gear is held onto the pressure plate by the pressure plate bolts. They go through the ring gear and into the flywheel.

John, I use a 915 pressure plate in both my 914 and my 911, on the 914 I use the centerforce RSR type with a carbon/kevlar disc. (I converted the 914 box to a pull clutch). On my 911 I have a'70 911 pull type box, and have a 915 all alum RSR pp for that.
So if your wondering if you can use a 915 pressure plate on a '70-71 trans, you can!!

Thanks Tim and Tyson.
So you just bolt the ring gear to the 915 pressure plate? No other problems with the starter?
