hi guys
i just got my car (996 2003 4S) from a major service (40,000km) and it had its yearly check up...everything was fine.. but i aked the service manager to have a look at the clutch as i felt i was a bit weak and when i shift the gears i feel that the rpm goes higher(cant explain it)... that wasent normal..so i was told at 50,000km i would need to replace the clutch...isnt that TO SOON? i THINK i was told that it may cost around $2200 u.s... ![]() this is my FIRST stick car so my driving may have been a factor, im only 23.. ![]() so is this normal?? how long should a 996 clutch last? and what should it cost at a dealer?? is it a LONG process?? do they take out the engine? gearbox? p.s i drive the car EVERYDAY in a city with somewhat busy traffic thanks guys ![]() |

You have most likely been slipping that clutch more than you realized as you learned to drive a "stick shift" car. Replace it now, before you need a flywheel as well...;-(

Also worth noting, if you bought the car to do a lot of city driving then you should have picked up a tiptronic, would have made things easier. Or learned to drive standard on another vehicle.
