Finally, a use for the Cayenne...parts?!
Walked by a Cayenne in person the other day, and the one thing that struck me most was MAN does this thing have huge brake rotors and calipers! I guess that's what's needed to stop a heavy SUV in traditional Porsche fashion, but what if you put that same equipment onto a much lighter 911? :D
I'm sure someone can figure out a way to make this work. I'm just the idea man... -Boyo |

Yeah I don't see the need in that big of brakes unless you are at Lemans. I just put new brakes and rotors on the front of my carrera and it doesn't take much pressure to bounce your nose on the steering wheel.
I can't imagine needing to stop much faster than that. Besides like Jack said. that is a lot of unsprung weight for nothing. |
They are huge. 6-piston calipers on front. Makes it stop within 6 feet of a 996TT from 60MPH. BTW, the silver S and red Turbo Cayenne calipers are the same - just different colors. -- Curt

I think the Tourag must have the same ones because I literally stopped and stared at them when I saw one the other day. They are monsters!

I agree. It's the engines we want to rob...

Some chick roared past me in one the other day up in SF.
That thing looks just solidly built and well crafted. If you are going to do an SUV, you may as well do it the right way and it looks like Porsche did. I dont know why they get such a bad rap for it. |

Maybe it's because of this! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cayenne-macan-forum/133402-i-caused-accident-today.html BTW, I just had my Cayenne brakes redone Friday. They had a lo-speed squealing problem and an extreme 'brake dust' problem. This is common to all early production Cayennes due to an extremely hard compound pad. Replaced pads with a slightly softer compound, new mounting hardware and turned rotors under warranty - solved both problems. Supposedly, the braking distance increases slightly with these pads but I think you'd have to be braking from 150mph to notice ..... |
Sounds like a great way to increase unsprung weight, waste quite a few $$$, and manage to lock the wheels sooner in emergencies...
All 911s have excellent brakes - there seems little point in upgrading them for anything other than out and out racing use, provided of course, they are in good condition to begin with. - roGER |
