i can't reach my steering wheel...

actually, i CAN reach my steering wheel but my left shoulder is constantly sore from being stretched when i drive. i can't move my seat up anymore and i'm not going to drive with my seat back at a 90 degree straight up and down angle. i'm not short, i'm 6'1 but i guess i just have short arms and long legs...

anyway, i'd like to know if there is some sort of spacer i could place behind my steering wheel to make it closer to me. the gap between my dashboard and steering wheel is less than an inch and i've noticved other pcar with a wider gap between dashboard and steering wheel.

cheers,

grinder

Wow, I`m the opposite. Im 6`3, and can reach the wheel just fine. My legs create a problem with the steering wheel.I need a smaller steering wheel, since it drags on my upper legs.

well that's part of the problem, if i move my seat up any further my legs hit the wheel. so i'm restricted to move it up anymore. if i move the back part of the seat up anymore my head hits the top.

arrrgggh !!!!

When I changed over to the Pelican 930S wheel it came with a spacer about 3/4" thick; I put it in as Sarah recommended it to give extra space between wheel and dash. Works for me; but now that you mention it, that darn left shoulder? Our host sells them, give them a call and I'm sure they can help out.
Happy driving!

I wonder if the 930S steering wheel spacer would work?

Ya, my seat is back all the way, and the legs STILL hit the bottom of the steering wheel.

I feel your pain, arrrrgggh!!

Well I gotta say, the Recaro seats in the 911 were not designed to be "laid back". One of the reasons I gave up my Sport seats for SPD's was the funky back positioning of the stock sport seat. I prefer my seat almost upright, as I've learned from track driving. If you notice most race seats sit very upright.

Having said all that, I too had to go to a smaller wheel. My legs are pretty big from too many squats and they always hit. My solution was the SPD's and a Top Power sterring wheel from MOMO. It's 350mm.

Good Luck.

There is a factory /OE spacer available.

Also available, is the search function.

I'm 6'2" and had the same problem(s), so I had the seat mounts cut out and lowered. Now all is good. This allows for more headroom with the seat upright, I can reach the steering wheel, and my legs don't hit anymore (even with aftermarket wheel).

You can see some of the modification pics in this thread:

Seat Lowering Danger!

There are spacers availabe for aftermarket steering wheels, Pelican has one available at 1/2" (tried it, wasn't enough):

Smart Racing has one in 1.25" availabe, but again for aftermarket wheels only (this was next, but went back to stock wheel for more legroom before mount modification):

thanks for all the feedback pelicanites!

island 911, thanks for the heads up on the search function...i just ran my first search for 'smart ass' and your name came up! whadya know!

the OEM spacers are hard to come by and i'm not sure they were made for the SC. i've had people tell me that the early 911s had them for sure, but even those were a completely different steering setup. might you have any leads on where to find 'em?

momo extended hub, 1" spacer, momo wheel of choice. Problem solved, along with more leg/knee room.

at this rate it will probably be easier to track down one of those medival torture machines that stretch people rather than a OEM spacer. i could hook my arms up and get a couple inches that way....

Right. . .for an SC. oops. I think you'll find the OE "extended reach" wheels for just about everything but the SC.

. . .or you can go midevil
